Born and raised in Ethiopia, Teshome fled political instability and spent two years as a refugee in Kenya before being granted asylum in the U.S. For over 25 years he has been a cornerstone of the Ethiopian community in DC — organizing cultural events, mentoring young Ethiopians, and helping new immigrants find their footing in a new country.

After 15 years in California, Jennifer returned home to earn her nursing degree from the University of Indianapolis. Today she balances bedside nursing with financial education — guiding families toward healthier, more secure lives both physically and financially. Her service roots run deep, from AmeriCorps wetland restoration to Red Cross disaster relief.
